The Company was founded in 2004 by coffee farmers from San Ramón and surrounding areas (Costa Rica West Valley), with the main purpose to process and market their coffee directly to world markets, generating wellness for the producer and the community, as well as a good return for shareholders. This company processes coffee from 3800 producers throughout four coffee growing regions of the country. Its capital is 100% Costa Rican and is in the hands of 590 micro, small and medium coffee producers. Equally, it has integrated under its operation different stages of added value that represent the production and industrialization of coffee, be it wet and dry milling and exports.
Although Costa Rica is a producer of high-quality coffees, ironically it is very difficult to get good coffee that is 100% pure in-country. Beneficio La Montaña created their own brand of roasted coffee, Café Don Lucas, to make their premium product known at a global level. Their goal is to teach and educate people to consume coffee that is high quality, clean, and produced/processed in Costa Rica. This is how the company honors the memory of their great-grandfather, Papa Lucas, who always wore his timeless, iconic hat. He was a pioneer of coffee in the family, just like so many other men and women who have produced and processed coffee here.
Finca la Candelilla belongs to the Sánchez family composed of 7 brothers who own the farm and the mill. The family has been producing coffee for more than 50 years on the same estate. Poás Volcano is one of the major attractions in the Central Valley region, one of the most visited national parks, and a great day trip add-on for any Costa Rica vacation itinerary. Poás volcano is a powerful symbol of the geothermal forces that formed Costa Rica. When the mist and clouds part you’ll see the sulfuric, bubbling, green rain fed lake at the bottom, surrounded by smoke and steam rising from fumaroles. Water from the lake is constantly seeping through cracks in the hot rock, evaporating and building pockets of steam.
Francisca and Oscar Chacón are almost unique in Costa Rica. They have managed to establish their micro mill which processes certified organic coffee. In addition, their passion for coffee and their dedication to processes has led them to experience different processes such as the Yellow, Red and Black Honey as well as an excellent natural process. While organic production has been disappearing from Costa Rica, the couple remains true to their principles.
Las Lajas is the result of the union of the Chacón family. Brothers and sisters deliver their coffee to their own mill so they can market most of it as micro lots. Located in the foothills of the Poas volcano, in the historic lands of Costa Rican coffee farming, the farm offers a wide palette of coffees, divided into lots, processes and certification.
